1. Good Ol' Vanilla Cupcakes with Red and White Frosting

Difficulty Level (1-10): 3 | Effort Level (1-10): 3
Sometimes traditional is best and we’re going to have to agree with that for this simple vanilla cupcake recipe. Ingredients have been measured carefully to produce a soft and moist cupcake coupled with a light, buttery buttercream frosting. Mmm this never fails to hit the spot. Awesome traditional flavours so the spotlight stays on the colourful red and white swirled frosting for the perfect National Day Party Dessert.

3. Raspberry Red Macarons with Vanilla Buttercream

Difficulty Level (1-10): 7 | Effort Level (1-10): 7
Ah Macarons, the epitome of dessert decadence, but with a notorious reputation for being tricky to bake! Not to worry though, we’ve experimented thoroughly and have the perfect recipe to make sure you get it on the first try. Yes, even in this Singapore humidity!

Macarons are made from finely ground almond flour folded into a meringue (i.e. whipped egg whites) as a base recipe. They taste great just like that, but you can always add in some flavouring, which is what our recipe calls for to match that red for National Day spirit!

4. Red and White Ondeh Ondeh

Difficulty Level (1-10): 4 | Effort Level (1-10): 5
Ondeh Ondeh – a traditional Peranakan dessert that’s sure to bring you memories of your childhood. These little balls of soft coconut-ty goodness explode with a sweet Gula Melaka centre in every mouthful. Need we say more? The dough takes a little effort to knead but it’ll all be worth it eventually.

5. White Chocolate and Coconut Strawberries

Difficulty Level (1-10): 1 | Effort Level (1-10): 1
If everything that you’ve seen above has got you itching to whip up some pretty desserts, but you don’t have the confidence to try (though we’d say you really should, cos it’s easier than it looks!), here’s a bonus simpler than simple dessert idea – Strawberries dipped in white chocolate.

Buy a punnet of beautiful fresh red strawberries (they’re in season now!), and then dip them in melted white chocolate. Garnish with some desiccated coconut and you’ve got yourself a great looking and yummy dessert.

Don’t even need a recipe for this one!
